05 Oct 2018 Fri – “Final Stop – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA”

As I reach the final 7 km walk towards Compostela, you run across the famous statues as a tribute to the “Peregrinos” or “Pilgrims”.

At this point, you begin to see the towers of Compostela Cathedral towards the horizon. My final walk continues on for another 7 km until I reach the Cathedral, where the remains of St. James are interred.

… and finally, when you reach Santiago, you see the awesome site and grandeur of the Cathedral.

Inside the cathedral, you will find the famous giant incense burner called “Botafumerio” hanging from the center of the Cathedral. It is handled by several mass servers/priests made to swing the burner like a pendulum between the two lateral ends of the church.

I attended the 12:00 mass spoken in various languages and addressed particularly to the pilgrims that had struggled the walk towards Compostela.

I was greeted by Fr.Domingo, the filipino priest based in the Cathedral of Compostela, who had given me his blessing upon my arrival to the Cathedral.
